GIF Preview Not Loading? Hotlinking Blocks, Redirects, and Fixes
Published: 2026-04-15
If a GIF plays on a site but your preview/download fails, the host may block hotlinking. Here’s how to fix it.
Some websites allow playing a GIF on their page but block other sites from embedding it. This is called hotlink protection. It can break previews, and sometimes even direct downloads.
Fix 1: Use “Extract from Webpage” instead of a direct file link
- Copy the webpage URL (not the image URL).
- Open GIF Downloader.
- Select Extract from Webpage and scan.
Fix 2: Refresh the direct URL (signed links expire)
Some media URLs expire quickly. Re-open the page and copy the direct link again.
Fix 3: Check redirects
If your URL redirects multiple times, the final media URL may change. Read: Why some GIF links don’t work.
Try the tool:
Use GIF Downloader.
